New changes to Voter Registration

June 30, 2014 by Francis

Registering to vote has changed!

The way we all register to vote has changed

The registration system changed in June 2014. The new system is called ‘Individual Electoral Registration’.

How is the new system different?

  • You can now register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
  • Everyone is responsible for registering themselves. Under the old system the ‘head of every household’ could register everyone who lived at their address.
  • You need to provide a few more details to register – including your national insurance number and date of birth. This makes the electoral register more secure.

How do I register under the new system?

  1. Go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
  2. Fill in your name, address, date of birth and a few other details. You’ll also need your national insurance number, which can be found on your national insurance card, or in official paperwork such as payslips, or letters about benefits or tax credits.
  3. Look out for a confirmation to say you’re registered.

Will I need to do anything?

  1. Look out for a letter between 14 July and 30 August.

Most people who are already registered to vote will be registered automatically under the new system. They do not need to do anything. However, some people will need to take action to join the new register. We are writing to people to tell them whether they need to take action.

2) Respond to the letter if you are asked to. The letter will tell you     whether you are on the new register or whether you need to take action. It will tell you what to do.

What if I need the form in a different language?

  1. Contact us if you are having difficulties reading the letter or you need a registration form in a different language.
  2. OR, contact the Council directly by going into a library or a customer service centre

HANA NEWSLETTER FOR MAY 2014

June 20, 2014 by Francis

MESSAGE FROM CHIEF OFFICER

I am proud to present the first number of the HANA Newsletter which brings to you news about recent events and information on forthcoming activities. The first quarter of the year was very busy for HANA with an unprecedented level of partnership work and the delivery of events across the City of Hull.

I would like also to welcome you to our new offices. We have been fortunate to be able to buy a property to house HANA’s offices, events and activities and, as most of you know, we are working now from 44 Portland Street HU2 8JX. This is a great building that is open to all communities and which acts as a point of contact and interaction for people of all communities. If you have not visited us yet in the new building, I would like to invite you to pop in and see what HANA has to offer to your community and its members.

This first issue of our Newsletters includes also photographs of the very successful HANA World Cup of Football 2014 which took place earlier on 25 May at the KC Stadium. I hope you enjoy the newsletter and have a great Summer.

THE HANA FOOTBALL WORLD CUP 2014

2014, a FIFA World Cup year again after four long years of waiting!  No other sporting event captures the world’s imagination like the FIFA World Cup when the whole world unites and comes together.  This year’s World Cup is in Brazil, land of Samba and the cradle of the world’s many great footballers.  They say football born in England but grow and mature in Brazil!  The football euphoria has also arrived to HANA again!

HANA organised its annual Football World Cup, just weeks before the actual World Cup in Brazil, on 25th May 2014, 10.00 am to 5.00 pm at KC Stadium, the Circle, Anlaby Road, Hull.

There were 29 teams participating in the tournament from different nationalities and ethnic group living in Hull and The Humber region.  The previous HANA World Cups were huge successes and great examples of community cohesion and togetherness, this year’s tournament was even better!

HANA’ s primary aim is to promote the well being of BME communities in the Hull and East Riding Area by providing a voice and advocate on their behalf, and by representing their interests in the range of influential or decision-making contexts.  This role is supported by capacity-building amongst BME groups, signposting and referral on the one hand and engagement with partnership bodies on the other.

Brew up, bake off and buy buns

September 26, 2013 by Francis

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place Friday 27th September and City Health Care Partnership CIC (CHCP CIC) are putting the kettle on to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising event of the year, encouraging people across the UK to hold coffee mornings. In 2012 115,000 people signed up nationwide, raising a record total of £15million.

CHCP CIC’s dental service, City Health Dental, will be holding a coffee morning a day early on Thursday 26th September. Members of the public are encouraged to come along enjoy a coffee and help raise money at the dental practice based on Jameson Street in the Hull city centre.

On Friday CHCP CIC will be involved in two more public coffee mornings, one of these will be at CHCP CIC’s Carers Information and Support Service (CISS), based on King Edward Street. From 9am until 12pm people will be able to pop along for coffee, cakes, a raffle and tombola.

The other coffee morning on Friday will be at Bransholme Health Centre where nurses from treatment rooms and minor injuries, customer services staff, admin teams, GP surgery staff and even members of security will be joining forces for their own event, which will include the raffle of a giant cupcake.

In addition to these three, CHCP CIC will also be holding a fourth coffee morning at their head office based at Priory Park, to ensure they can raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It doesn’t matter if your preference is coffee or tea, help Macmillan Cancer Support and pop on down for a brew and a slice of cake.

Tour de France Grand Départ Cultural Festival 2014

September 17, 2013 by Francis

Dear Voluntary and Community groups,

The Tour de France is the world’s largest annual sporting event. Next year, the Grand Départ (opening days) comes to Yorkshire. This will be the first time a Cultural Festival will run prior to and alongside the event – a fantastic opportunity for Yorkshire to showcase to the world the wealth of culture on offer in our fine county.

The Festival itself will run from 27 March – 6 July 2014, the start day being the 100 day milestone until the Tour arrives in Yorkshire. The route runs from Leeds to Harrogate on 5th July and from York to Sheffield on 6th July.

The Grand Départ Cultural Festival team is inviting artists, arts organisations and members of the creative industries to respond to the Festival’s creative vision. Proposals can include any type of artistic activity, such as the use of visual arts, light, sound, projections, music, performing and live arts, written and spoken word.

Although the race itself will not pass through Hull, there is an expectation that many participants and spectators will arrive in and depart from Hull so this is a fantastic opportunity for local artists to get involved!

Opportunities include:

Major Commissions – around four major commissions across the county designed to create high impact memorable once in a lifetime experiences, demonstrate excellent artistic quality and high levels of ambition with national/international significance and the potential for broadcast opportunities and reach lots of people with all parts or significant elements free to access. Awards of £150,000-£300,000 available.

Animation of the Route Commissions – around four commissions which facilitate and coordinate high impact memorable arts experiences along the tour route. Awards of £100,000-£150,000 available.

Community Commissions – around twenty community commissions across the county which facilitate high quality community-centred arts activity which responds to the Grand Depart. Awards of £5,000-£10,000 available.

Peloton Programme events – around twenty new productions or premieres across the county within your organisation’s existing programme during the 100 days of the festival. These events will receive high profile print and online marketing and major public relations support, not direct financial support.

Sportive Programme events – unlimited number of events as part of existing arts programming across the 100 days. Projects will receive online marketing profile.

If you are planning to apply to either the Major Commissions or the Animation of the Route Commissions, you need to email Jenny Rose at jrose@yorkshire.com to arrange an informal discussion with Festival Director Maria Bota before submitting your application.

You are welcome to submit more than one proposal.

Please note the deadline for proposals for all commissions and the Peloton prgramme is 5pm on Monday 14th October (by email only).

There is no deadline for events to be submitted to the Sportive programme.

To find out more and download the application form and further information, please visit  http://letour.yorkshire.com/artsfestival

For general enquiries you can contact Jenny Rose on 0113 322 3500 or jrose@yorkshire.com
