Kitchen Assistant

We are looking to hire a dedicated and reliable kitchen assistant to assist the preparation, cooking and serving of food at our Breakfast Club as well as perform all washing and cleaning duties required in the kitchen. The kitchen assistant’s responsibilities include assisting with inventory control, removing the garbage, washing garbage cans, and clearing refrigerators, freezers.
To be successful as a kitchen assistant, you should exercise exceptional time management and ensure that all duties are completed in a timely manner. Ultimately, an outstanding Kitchen Assistant should be able to comply with all food health and safety regulations.
Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities:
• Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Assisting with the preparation of meal ingredients.
• Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
• Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.

Kitchen Assistant Requirements:
• Proven experience assisting in kitchens.
• A food handler’s license. Food safety and food hygiene certificate
• Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
• The ability to stand for extended periods.
• The ability to work in a team.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication skills.

Duration of Contract: 1 year
Rate: 11.00/hr
Working hours: 6.00am to 10.00am
Closing date: 22nd September 2023

Funding Support for Internet and Call Credits

Humber All Nation Alliance (HANA) has been awarded £1,000.00 from the Two – Ridings Community Foundation to help vulnerable members who could not have access to the internet and telephone facilities at HANA premises to get a month worth of internet and call credits.

This is to enable to them to still get information in the mist of this pandemic.

Also they will be able to get access to important services like GPs, the Police etc.

“Information is important and better if accessed at the right time and in the right form. This support will help our members be well informed and on time.”

Funding to support the work

Humber All Nation Alliance (HANA) has been awarded £1050.00 from National Survivor User Network (NSUN) to support community action and mutual aid for mental health during Covid-19.

The Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund (CMHRF) launched on Thursday 16th April, for Voluntary and Community Sector organisations based in England to continue to provide mental health services, or provide additional support, during Covid-19.

The funding that NSUN has provided HANA will support community action, peer support, mutual aid and other activities that will make a direct difference to the lives of people living with mental ill-health, trauma and distress during this Covid-19 period.

“We are delighted to receive this funding as it shows a commitment to supporting small charities like HANA that are able to demonstrate the value, impact and reach of projects led by lived experience.”

Tackling Inequalities Fund

PRESS RELEASE: 26 06 2020

 

£5000 of National Lottery funding awarded to Humber All Nations Alliance towards tackling of activity inequalities in Hull

 

Humber All Nations Alliance has been awarded £5000 of National Lottery funding from Sport

England’s Tackling Inequalities Fund which aims to tackle inequalities in activity levels

through working with its partners to reach those most in need as a result of the impact of

COVID-19.

 

The funding award will allow Humber All Nations Alliance to provide opportunities for BAME communities to access sports activities in Hull.

 

Sport England’s work and contribution to Tackling Inequalities focuses on reducing the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on activity levels in under-represented groups, ensuring gaps between those who are active and those who are not do not widen during this period.

 

With a strong understanding of the needs and issues in their areas, Sport England has initially channelled £3.3m through the 43 Active Partnerships across England to support

Community groups in their areas as a result of the impacts of COVID-19.

 

This funding and support will enable community groups working with target audiences –

Lower Socio-Economic Groups, Black, Asian Minority Ethnic Communities, Disabled People and People with Long-Term Health Conditions (LTC) – to continue to exist and engage with their communities with a view to keeping them active during both the lockdown and early recovery stages.

We are really pleased to receive this funding at a critical time for the community. Over the past few years HANA has organised a World Cup football tournament that has attracted 30 different teams from different communities across Hull. Hopefully, this funding will enable football and other activities to take place in next few months so that local people can engage in sport as we move out of lockdown.

 

Tim Hollingsworth, Sport England’s Chief Executive, said:

“We are proud to be able to provide funding and support to Humber All Nations Alliance

in this difficult period. This funding will help support our valuable community

infrastructure that is so important in keeping the nation active and will also provide important connections and reconnections for people whose lives have been affected by COVID-19 and for whom remaining active is so important for their physical, mental and social wellbeing. We know from our research and data that there are existing inequalities between groups when it comes to activity levels and COVID-19 has re-inforced these.

“Thanks to the support of the National Lottery and its players, the Tackling Inequalities Fund

will be both crucial and central to ensuring no-one is left behind when it comes to having the

opportunity to be active during this period. This builds off the back of our £35m Community

Emergency Fund that has already reached and supported over 7,500 community clubs and

groups across England.”

Funding Sessions

Please find below the following course available to you:

24 June – Thinking about funding applications – an introduction to voluntary and community sector funding, and grant-readiness
This first session will give a general overview of the ways that organisations can fund themselves. It will focus on what funders need from you in order to convince them to provide funding with a particular focus on grant funding. It will also be an opportunity for you to raise the issues that you would like information and support with to help you find funding for your group.

Future sessions include:

2 July – Small grants – some local sources of funding and what you need to know to apply. Representatives from the Wharfedale Foundation, and the Two Ridings Community Foundation will be joining us to tell you more about their grants and what makes a good application.

9 July – Funding searches – where to find information about funding – this session will introduce you to some sources of information about grants and funding so that you can do your own searches

16 July – budgets and project plans – make your applications better and more convincing – this session looks at how to plan a project and make sure your budget is reasonable and convincing to give funders confidence in your work. Funders only have limited amounts of money to give you. They need to see that every penny will be effective and well spent.

23 July – Outcomes – how to convince funders your work will make a positive difference – this session looks at the one thing most organisations find hardest to write about in their funding applications. Outcomes are the changes that come out of your work – for example people becoming healthier, or having better opportunities in life. The trick is proving that changes happen in people’s lives, and being able to tell funders about it. That’s what makes your funding application really interesting to funders.

30 July – it’s not all about grants – raising funds in other ways – this session will give an overview of other forms of income, such as fundraising from the public, trading, social-investment and in-kind support and where to find more information.

New Project

We are delighted to bring to you the Good News of our project:

THE ARTS AND PICTURE STORIES

Over the past years, there is a huge increase in the number of the Minority Communities that have moved or relocated to the City of Hull. This has increased the demand for services in the area that have the understanding of working with them.

It is a fact such increase creates tension in the communities which if not dealt with early and professionally can lead to spiralling violence against young people streets which could result in devastating losses of young lives.

It will the story of these migrants who will be engaged to use the time to use arts, drama and photography to avoid the life cycle of violence, gangs and ultimately time in prison.

We are running arts and photography initiative where unsung individuals will work to help the BME communities through creativity. This will become a haven for young people in the city both inside and through its outreach, which is aimed changing many lives through this creative programmes.

This will bring value to the BME communities and delivering something that others clearly are not. Through this, the project has been able to spot a crisis and try to fix it.

We at Humber All Nations Alliance through this project the arts can furnish many with life skills and values, while helping also to bring about change and sense of belonging. We believe this project will enable creative opportunities with greater support, engagement, investment and accessibility across communities.

Cancellation of HANA Football World Cup

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Management, Staff, Volunteers, Members and Partners, we will like to inform you that the HANA Football World Cup 2020 slated for Saturday 6th June 2020 has been cancelled as a result of Government directives on sporting activities and gathering of people in large groups.

Since there cannot be any effective social distancing at an event such as this, we therefore have to take this difficult and painful decision.

We hope to be back next year.

Thanks to our members and the Community

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff, I want to thank you all for attending our hustings last Monday, 25th November 2019, where you all had the opportunity to ask your Parliamentary Candidates or their representatives questions on issues that concerns you and how they intend to get them addressed when they get the chance to represent you in Parliament.

I am particularly glad for the healthy interactions that we had and the fact that all of you had the chance for your voices to be heard.

I also want to thank the Parties and their representatives who had the chance to attend this despite their busy schedule. We are very grateful.

Funding Secured for New Project

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Members of HANA, I am glad to inform you that we have secured a two year funding from the Social Prescribing Grant to provide a ‘Health and wellbeing Community Hub’ for the benefit of individuals and families from Black and Minority Ethnic Communities in Hull.

The project would introduce a health and wellbeing aspect to HANA’s current community development based work, where we will offer sessions to the memberships for a start and then get into the wider communities who currently do not use any of our services.

We will do this by focusing on bringing people together for healthy social activities to reduce loneliness and associated negative mental health due to social isolation.

Where language barriers are often an issue, HANA’s staff, volunteers, and members speak a range of languages and therefore can often break down the communication barriers faced, so they can for example translate health service letters and therefore aid the access to health services by non-English speaking members of the community.

Fashion Show and Second Awards Ceremony for Volunteers

It is with a great pleasure, privilege and honour to bring to you the news about the HANA Fashion Show and the 2nd Edition of our Awards Ceremony for our Volunteers for the opportunity to say thank you to them all for the great work, efforts and time they have give during period for the work we good in the communities and the people we serve.

We want to say thank you to your families for being there and supportive in the background. Please lets enjoy the moment together and cerebrate this great event as one family.

We appreciate that it is not always great but you always get on with it, in the spirit of a typical Yorkshire person. You will still get up and dust yourself up and keep going.

We will bring to you some great music and wonderful performances for your relaxation.

The Fashion Show will showcase the various diverse communities in their traditional customs and what they all represent.

I wish you a Wonderful Day and lets share our various traditional food after the event.

Social Enterprise and Creative Care (BA Hons) – a new degree at Hull University

Are you interested in a career where you use your ideas and energy to help people to find solutions to social issues and problems? Perhaps you are already a volunteer in an important social project? Maybe you are looking for a challenging and rewarding role that has a positive impact in your community?

The University of Hull is launching a new degree in 2019 that aims to equip graduates to become successful social innovators and creative charity workers. This new programme, called Social Enterprise and Creative Care (BA Hons) will enable graduates to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence that they need to thrive in independent social businesses such as social enterprises or charities.

Much of the degree will focus on social care issues and solutions but our approach is wide. The course will help you to think about how creativity and innovation can enhance the lives of disadvantaged communities and individuals or people with other social and economic barriers in their lives. A key part of our approach will be to introduce students to some amazing innovators and pioneers who are keen to share their stories, insights and enthusiasm. One of the most exciting features of the programme will be the opportunity to work with a partner agency to develop a new initiative or project that will bring clear benefits to a group or a location. We will support you to put your enterprising ideas into action!
